Village Allotments

Your Council is still pursuing the acquisition of suitable land but so far with no success. We now plan to hold a meeting with all those who have applied for an allotment and explain the situation to them.

Floral Chirton

You may well wonder what this means! Your Council would like to take steps to enhance the general appearance of the village, particularly in the Spring. To this end it is intended to call a meeting of anyone in the village who would like to help make this happen.

The general idea is to identify those places in the village such as verges down The Hollow, The Street and Patney Road, the bank in Small Street under the new hedge and any other suggestions that people may have. The Council would then purchase the bulbs, say daffodils and crocuses, and volunteers would then plant them. If anyone is interested please get in touch with Jonathan Oliphant (01380 840084) who is coordinating the initiative.

Best Kept Village Competition

It is too early to get the results of this year's competition but many thanks to everyone who did their bit to make the village tidy and attractive. The result will be posted on the Notice Boards as soon as we receive it.

Turning Cars outside The School

As we all know the traffic situation outside the School is a difficult one, especially at the beginning and end of the school day. Many cars, and other vehicles, turn on the short road which goes up by the school site but others go and turn on the corner outside The Old Vicarage and No.55 The Street. As a result a large pothole developed and the Council managed with some difficulty to get it repaired by Wiltshire Council's Highway Department. The problem being that it was deemed to be part of the private drive to these two houses and not part of the highway.

Please would car owners desist from turning here as we are unlikely to be able to get Highways to mend it again and it is unfair to land the cost on the householders.

Dog Fouling

Sadly this antisocial subject has raised its ugly head once more. While there are still instances along several of our footpaths the worst site is outside the village hall despite the very clear notices on the lamp post. There is really no excuse for letting dogs do their business and not clearing up after them. The grass is cut on a regular basis, making it a pleasant place to sit or visit. However we may be in danger of losing the services of our grass cutting contractor if the situation does not improve!

Please will all dog owners carry a bag and clean up after their pets.

Sound of Music!

We all enjoy listening to music either in the house or while we are in the garden. However please spare a thought for your neighbours who may not have quite the same taste or enjoyment and keep the volume down — especially when windows and doors are open during this hot weather.
