Traffic Passing the School

The Council, in cooperation with the School, have asked Mr Mark Stansby of Wiltshire County Council Highways Department to paint a new SLOW sign on the road opposite the church and to refresh the other painted road signs further back down The Street. It is hoped that this will be done before the end of March this year.

Traffic Passing the School

We all know how difficult it is to drop off and pick up children at the school and double parking in that area is unavoidable during these times. Your council is in touch with the school to see what, if anything, can be done to improve this. However, there is another issue and that is parking on the grass when is wet and muddy. We would be most grateful if cars, particularly 4x4s, would refrain from parking here and churning up the surface.

Village Design Statement

The Village Design Statement has now received approval from the Planning Committee. It is currently lodged with Kennet District Council [from 1 April Wiltshire Council] as a legal document and will be used as supplementary information in any planning decisions in appropriate cases. Click here to see the final version in read-only (pdf) format.

Old Garage Site (Fussell Close)

The two low-cost houses have now been completed and should be ready for occupation by 31 March this year [now occupied]. The Parish Council had a meeting with the contractors on 5 March [see home page].

Village Allotments

Many of you will know that requests have been submitted to your parish council for the provision of allotments. At least six applications have been received and the council is now actively looking for suitable land. The council is in no position to buy land and will be looking to rent it on from a willing owner. The council is obligated to find land but the last thing they want to do is to have to make a compulsory lease! The process is unlikely to be quick so we would ask for your patience in the matter. If anyone is interested in an allotment and has not already submitted an application please contact the clerk, Jonathan Oliphant (01380 840084), who will gladly put them in the picture. This subject will be discussed at the Annual Parish Meeting.

Parish Council and Village Meetings

  • The Annual Parish Meeting — will take place on Tuesday 14 April at 7.30 pm in the school. Everyone is invited to attend as this is your chance to meet your council and bring up any matters which concern you. It would be helpful if you could send a brief outline of what you wish to raise so that members can prepare a full answer.
  • The Annual Parish Council Meeting — Tuesday 12 May at 7:30 pm in the school. Members of the public may attend and will be given an opportunity to address the council.
