Recycling Skips
A reminder that the dates for these skips for the rest of the year and early 2009 are as follows. 10 October - School; 5 December - Miller Close; 13 February 2009 - Marden Village Hall. The skips will be on site from 1000-1230. If they arrive earlier it will be a bonus! [You can also find this information on the Recycling page.]
Traffic Passing the School
Mr Mark Stansby of Wiltshire County Council Highways Department and his Road Safety Adviser will be visiting the school early in the new term to assess the situation with a view to recommending what action can be taken to improve safety.
Old Garage Site
The latest information is that work should begin by 30 September. The council will continue to monitor the situation which is not helped by the severe downturn in the economy.
Vandalism in the village
Very regrettably there have been two cases of mindless vandalism in the village. On the night of Saturday 16 August a group of young people, both male and female, climbed over the rear fence of the school playing field near the class rooms and broke into the metal shed containing the play group's toys, scattered them around and broke one of the tricycles. Paint was splashed on the back of one of the classrooms and a bench was broken. They also left the ground littered with beer cans and other bottles. There was also some damage to garden ornaments and flower pots at a house in Park View, which may be connected to the same group. Both matters have been reported to the Police who are investigating. If anyone can throw more light on these two incidents, please contact the Police quoting 5408 0071 849 for the school and 5408 0069 960 for the house in Park View.
Big Tidy Up
On 1 September 'Keep Britain Tidy' is launching England's first ever 'Big Tidy Up' and Kennet District Council are keen to support this initiative. On the whole Chirton and Conock do not have a litter problem but the parish council would like to urge everyone to keep an eye out for litter of what ever sort around the village and pick it up and deposit either in one of the bins or in their own litter bins. In this way we shall only improve the appearance of our already pretty village!
