Chirton and Conock Parish Council
NEWSLETTER
Autumn 2007
New Arrivals
Three new houses have been completed since the last newsletter was published and a number of new people have moved in. We welcome all the new arrivals and hope that they will enjoy life in Chirton and enter into the life the village.
Neighbourhood Watch
There has been a break in publication of the Police Neighbourhood Watch newsletter — the last one went out in July. If you did not receive it please contact Jonathan Oliphant or your local Neighbourhood Coordinator.
Old Garage Site
The continued lack of progress is frustrating for all of us and your council continues to press for action, but until the contractors and the Housing Association can agree a price for the low-cost housing element of the development nothing will happen!
Waste Disposal
The dates for the cardboard and plastic recycling skips for 2007/2008 are as follows, all from 1000-1230hrs.
- 14 September — Marden Village Hall
- 9 November — School
- 18 January 2008 — Miller Close
- 14 March 2008 — Marden Village Hall
Some of you may have noticed that the litter bin by the telephone box in The Street disappeared on Friday 10 August together with the top of the bin outside the church. It seemed a coincidence that the refuse lorry had just gone by! Your council contacted Kennet District Council who have managed to replace the bin by the telephone box but not the top of the other one. In case someone other than the dustmen removed these items please would you keep an eye out for them in case they have been dumped elsewhere.
Dog Fouling
The reason for raising this subject again is that there has been a change in the law which now enables parish councils to impose penalties on those who do not clear up after their dogs. It may not always be fully understood that fouling on any footpath or right of way is against the law. So leaving a dog's mess where someone might tread in it on a footpath in the open country is just as much an offence as it is within the parish boundary. Your council would much rather approach this difficult antisocial subject in a low key way and rely on everyone's cooperation than to be heavy handed. Bags are available from Kennet District Council or the parish clerk but the answer in open country is surely to move it where it will not cause a nuisance!
Villge Improvements
Your council will be considering if there are any ways in which they can improve village life and would welcome suggestions from anyone living in Chirton and Conock. It is a sad fact that both County and District budgets are tighter than ever, so we feel it is up to us to see if we can help. Our means are limited so we do not promise to meet everyone's aspirations! Please contact the clerk, Jonathan Oliphant, or any councillor as soon as possible.
Contacting Parish Councillors
