| FINDING THE MANHOLE - FLOODING IN THE STREET |
FOR OVER FOUR YEARS the Parish Council has been trying, with the help of Wiltshire County Council Highways Department, to solve the problem of flooding in The Street just past the church.
It was known that there was a piped ditch running south from the road. It was also known that somewhere along its length there was a manhole. But no one had been able to find it. This was mainly because they were looking in the wrong place. It was thought to be in the garden of No.56. It turned out to be over the fence in No.54 — and 18 inches below ground level!
The manhole has been dug out and the cover raised. We now await the return of the "Vactor" (see picture) to jet out the pipe going south from the manhole. If this is successful the problem will be solved and flooding — at this location at least — will be a thing of the past!
